August = NY, Denmark, UK, Ireland!
KKRG show, Joachim Cooder tour, a new sticker, and my cool friends.
What ho!
I’m still tucked away at the cabin, enjoying summer in the Adirondacks and feeling like the luckiest duck on the lake. But I’ll be venturing out of the nest in the coming weeks, and I want to make sure you’ve been alerted.
Kieran Kane and I have a couple more duo shows while we’re up here in the northlands:
THIS SATURDAY, AUGUST 5 we’ll be at Tompkins Corners Cultural Center in Putnam Valley, New York. I spent a profoundly formative couple months of my young adulthood working with John Cohen right up the road from this sweet little hall, so returning to that community always has special meaning for me. If you have music-loving friends in the Hudson valley, please send them along! Show starts at 7:30. Click here for all the info.
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 10 we’ll be at The Hackmatack Playhouse in Berwick, Maine. This is a spot that regularly hosts summer stock theater, and they’ve recently started adding in some music shows on their “off” nights. We’re excited to see coastal Maine in early September! It’s an early show, starts at 6pm. Click here for all the info.
AND..!
In between those two outings I’ll be going on a whole dang TOUR with Joachim Cooder—in Europe! His band for these shows will be me on fiddle/viola/voice and Mark Fain on bass. I’m looking forward to the music and camaraderie, and looking askance at all the air travel involved. (Maybe you can join me in prayer for on-time departures and friendly gate agents…)
Dates include the Tønder Festival in Denmark, Shrewsbury Folk Festival in England, and several stops in Ireland. See all the info on my calendar.
Fiddlegeekery
I’ve got a NEW silly sticker for all you fiddlegeeks available on my Ko-fi page (where I’ve also still got a few of the old silly sticker design—and archived fiddle workshops).
Here’s a brief new blog post where I talk about why the tune videos on my site are free.
And I’m starting to look toward fall and think about revving up some online workshops once again. I always love to get your tune requests, so please send ‘em my way.

Dick Connette has brought another chunk of his musical brain to life, and I’m honored to be a part of it. Go here to listen.
Caitlin Canty’s new album is simply swimming in understated loveliness. Go here to listen.
Mighty Poplar not only has one of my favorite band names, they’ve also made a gorgeous record. Go here to listen.
Peter Honig has a Soundcloud page where he’s posting old recordings of him and various pals. Such delightful, joyful old-time tunes! Go here to listen.

If you have not yet read it, the Uncle Dave Macon bio “the Dixie Dewdrop” is a good one. It’s written by a descendent of Uncle Dave who also happens to be a scholar. Not only is it well annotated, but it is also loaded with amusing anecdotes (such as Macon’s wife refusal to have an indoor toilet ‘cause she didn’t want that filthy thing in the house - and the ham Macon carried around while touring). I also like it for the history of the Grand Old Opry included. Safe travels.
