Coming to Ohio next week!
What Ho!
Welp, y’all, it’s that time of year… Kieran and I are preparing for our spring migration up north to the Adirondacks. For me that involves a lot of list-making and trying to squeeze in visits with local pals before I disappear for the summer. So far so good!
Our journey northward will be broken up with stops in Ohio at a couple favorite listening rooms. And then once we’re settled at the cabin we’ll be appearing around the northeast—including some spots we’ve never played before.

Latest Stuff
Remember last spring when I went over to Asheville for the Shellac Bash? I’m happy to report that it may be turning into an annual event! Sarah Bryan and I once again met up there and enjoyed a weekend of geekery alongside our fellow lovers of century-old records. It was edifying and inspiring on many levels, with a generous serving of irreverent silliness on the side. Live bands were The Forty Drop Few, Vaiano’s Paisanos, and a special performance by Wayne Martin, Margaret Martin, and Darren Moore in honor of the amazing Kinney Rorrer (who passed away in April).
My travels also included visiting (and playing tunes with) many old-time music friends in Asheville. And visiting (and playing tunes with) all my parental units! It was a great trip.
Fiddle Stuff
I’ve made some additions to my online tune video archive, most recently a few D tunes (“Duck River”, “Sullivan’s Hollow”, and “Jonah in the Windstorm”). A BIG thank-you to those of you who subscribe to that collection—your support makes the work not only possible but pleasurable! And I always appreciate receiving your suggestions for tunes to add to the pile.
My most recent livestreamed online workshop was focused on the tune “Rose in the Mountain” from John Salyer. If you missed it, you can still buy a ticket to view the archived video! (And if you’re bummed you missed it, that just means you need to sign up for my Fiddlegeek newsletter.)

Acknowledging
I wanted to say something here about the passing of Carol Elizabeth Jones, who was a dearly loved friend to me and so many others in the old-time music community. But words are really inadequate. CE was so many things—a singer, a songwriter, a champion for traditional music, a librarian, a gardener—but now that she’s gone I am struck by what an ENTHUSIASTICALLY loving friend she was. It seems like all the correspondence I had with her was full of heart emojis and exclamation points. What a gift it was to have her positive influence in my life for so many years. You can read her obituary here, and a beautiful bit of sharing from her daughter, Vivian Leva, over here.
