Greetings, fellow earthlings!
Springtime is now FULL ON here in East Nashville. Birds are singing, flowers are blooming, and the world is all bright and green and pollen-tastic.
I’m feeling pleased and privileged to join the ranks of The Vaccinated, having received my second dose last week. And — since this is what amounts to small talk these days — I’m perfectly okay with sharing the details: It was Moderna, and my side-effect experience was WAY less dramatic than I was bracing for. (I got achey and floppy for a day. Mild headache. Sore arm. No biggie.)
This is a weird in-between time, isn’t it? A partially-vaccinated population, antsy as heck to get out and “return to normal”… but what does that look like? How do we gauge what’s safe and accommodate each other’s ever-changing comfort levels? Looking toward summer, some events I thought would probably happen have been cancelled, other things I didn’t expect to go ahead are happening. Kieran and I have conversations every day about how we’re feeling about travel and performing, and every day we feel differently.
{Related: I loved listening to this episode of On the Media that addresses confusion around vaccines as well as the way our quirky brains try to calculate risk.}
There ARE some gig possibilities on the horizon, but nothing that has been officially announced or nailed down, so I can’t share anything on that front… yet. But stay tuned!
I do, however, have this to share: I’m teaching an online fiddle workshop tomorrow!
The tune this time will be “Mike in the Wilderness”, which I learned from the beautiful playing of Kentucky fiddler John Salyer. (Here’s a little clip of me playing it.)

Other bits…
I had a sweet Zoom chat with my dear old pal Stephanie Coleman recently, and have posted a few clips online. We talked about old-time fiddling and about learning and teaching music. (And also my relationship with golf.)
If you enjoy listening to very eclectic music when you jog/cook/putter/etc, you might have fun with my current running playlist on Spotify.

Thank you for reading!
It’s looking likely that I’ll have some exciting gig-news to share the next time I write. In the meantime, take care and carry on…
